Null Tests: A Technical Deep-Dive

Null tests are an oft-misunderstood test people use in order to try to understand what a plugin or other piece of gear is doing.

Having gotten a few interviews under our belt, we finally decided to sit down without a guest and discuss everything from filter design and DSP, to product decisions, what mastering really means and what mixing engineers are looking for in a workhorse plugin.
No Gatekeeping Allowed
Theory follows practice, always. That idea holds true generally, I think, but in the realm of music, I’m prepared to stand behind that statement 100% - theory follows practice. The oldest surviving written music is about 3,400 years old. The oldest surviving instrument? A bone flute that’s around 40,000 years old. People have been making music for a whole lot longer than the haters have been hating or gatekeepers have been gatekeeping. We are supposed to be making music, ok? This is ancestral.
